Mosh pits never looked so good

Dan Witz mosh painting

I stumbled upon fantastic street artist Dan Witz via Wooster Collective last night. His street art is amazing and beautiful, but I particularly like his mosh pit series of paintings. The style of these really reminds me of Norman Rockwell, if Rockwell had been interested in sweaty thrashing teenagers as his subject matter. Makes me wonder why no one ever thought to paint people moshing before. What an explosive, energetic activity to capture in such a nostalgic, classical style of painting.

I recommend if you’re browsing through his site to check out the skateboarders and boats in particular. His street art is created by painting onto vinyl stickers and then airbrushing on shadows behind the stickers to give the illusion of depth. It’s a shame that much of his art is confined to dumpsters and doorways that most of us will never lay eyes on.
