Last Friday I had the honour of judging the GDC Salazar Student Awards with Catherine Worrall, Jim Skipp, Roberto Dosil and Vida Jurcic.
Co-sponsored by Metropolitan Fine Printers, the Salazar Student Awards recognize projects of up-and-coming design students across British Columbia.
Reviewing work in three categories (print design, branding design and web design/interactive media) the judging went rather smooth, it was quite obvious which pieces excelled. I personally appreciated the level of conversation when trying to choose between two finalists within the print category. The conversation was intelligent, strategic and appropriate for the level of experience that the students had attained in their design career. This, however, did not stop us from commenting on design errors such as widows and orphans.
The winners will be announced this Friday – May 8th at Emily Carr, with a special presentation from guest speaker Michael Osborne of MODSF. Buy tickets here.
