In 1971, Nike founder (though it was then callled Blue Ribbon Sports) Phil Knight hired a design student to create a logo that ‘suggested movement’. He wasn’t blown away by her ideas, but deadlines were approaching and he needed a logo, so Phil went with the Swoosh, paying the student $35 for her efforts….
