To correspond with the 50th anniversary of that oh-so-serious font Helvetica, the Vancouver chapter of the GDC is hosting the Vancouver premier screening of the film by the same name, Helvetica The Film. But wait, there’s more! For the same low price of admission, join an after-party gala and a post film discussion with director Gary Hustwit, artist/author/designer Douglas Coupland and typographer/lithographer/2007 GDC fellowship honoree Jim Rimmer.
BTW, Douglas Coupland is an ardent Helvetica fan and typesets all his books with it. Join him for the film Tuesday August 7th, 2007, Empire Granville 7, 6:30 to 7:00PM. Tickets on sale now.
A whole film on a font you say?
About the Film:
Helvetica is a feature-length independent film about typography, graphic design and global visual culture. It looks at the proliferation of one typeface (which celebrates its 50th birthday in 2007) as part of a larger conversation about the way type affects our lives. The film is an exploration of urban spaces in major cities and the type that inhabits them, and a fluid discussion with renowned designers about their work, the creative process, and the choices and aesthetics behind their use of type.
