I recently learnt about this company whilst watching Extreme Makeover Home Edition.

The e-log has a foam core skinned in real wood. Compared to regular log homes, e-log is cheaper, better for the environment and better insulates your home.

Living in Vancouver where the architecture is a little plain I get excited when I see creative and brave architecture elsewhere in the world. That being said Vancouver is listed on this site of unusual architecture, unfortunately the example is actually a sculpture by Dennis Oppenheim and not an actual building (it is a great sculpture).

I have just learnt of the company Future Systems. The founder Jan Kaplický died earlier this month but leaves behind a most impressive portfolio of both architecture and product design.

Two pieces of work that are well worth a mention are the Sefridges building (a high end department stor in the UK) as well as a new design for a caravan.

In addition to ADCC and W3 awards we took home earlier in the year, we were recently very pleased to learn that our website for UBC School of Architecture and Landscape Architecture was honoured with a Lotus Merit in the interactive category.

We just received an intriguing promo from the Contemporary Art Gallery (Vancouver) for their current exhibit titled, Clip/Stamp/Fold 6 The Radical Architecture of Little Magazines 196X-197X.

The exhibition is based around the explosion of of architectural little magazines in the 60s and 70s, magazines that chronicled a transformation in architectural culoture. Not just magazines will be on display. Pamphlets and building instruction manuals as well as professional magazines. From what I’ve seen so far, architectural radicalism aside, if you are at all into design, you’ll want to check this out purely for the aesthetic value.

We recently learned our website for UBC’s School of Architecture and Landscape Architecture has been accepted into Directions 2008, The Advertising and Design Club of Canada’s (ADCC) annual awards show. Thought we should share the good news!

A key to the redesign of the SALA website was to present the UBC School of Architecture as a leader in the education of architecture, as well as to reflect a culture of design, research and community within the four recently merged departments. Additionally, the site required the delivery and management of a vast amount of program and admissions information in diverse graphic and textual forms in an easy to navigate format.

In contrast to the many brochure-style school websites, the SALA site presents the exemplary work that is produced on an ongoing day-to-day basis by its community. The design dynamically features content individually input by staff, faculty and students using a Drupal platform as a content management framework and an HTML and Flash presentation layer. Through the provision of individual blogs/conversations and the areas of the site provided to key groups, the site fosters interaction, exchange and exploration amongst the SALA community.

Congratulations to Mark, Ben, Haig, Amanda, Kevin, Cameron, Matthew, Sarah and everyone else who had a hand in bringing this terrific project to life.

We are happy to announce the launch of UBC’s School of Architecture’s new website. The site offers students, faculty and alumni the ability to upload content and comment on other’s work. We think the custom Flash Tag bar system is particularly nifty.

Bono and the boys are busy at work on the tallest building in Ireland, a consortium led by the band has been selected as the preferred bidder to design, finance and construct the £140 million project. The tilted triangular 600ft. building will be clad in solar panels, include 34 social and affordable flats with the remainder accommodating luxury apartments, while a five-star hotel will be built in an adjoining building, as part of its designers’ commitment to renewable energy and socially conscious architecture.

An egg-shaped recording studio suspended from the top of a 600ft luxury apartment block was unveiled as part of the rock band U2′s plans for a skyscraper that will dominate Dublin.
