On Wednesday of this week I spoke on branding and blogging at the Future of Publishing Conference alongside Arieanna Foley, Kris Krug, Eric Karjaluoto and Janet Johnson. The panel was moderated by Robert Ouiment of At Large Media. Regardless of what side of the panel table you were on, it was a great morning and a lot of information and ideas passed around.
Afterwards, I grabbed a quick bite at one of Industrial Brand’s favourite Mexican restaurants, Mexico Sabroso, where I ran into conference attendee Becca Young. Over tacos, tostadas and horchata we continued some of the morning’s discussions. I’m not sure how it came up (I think Becca made mention of the Flaming Lips) which brought up a recent interview I read while looking into Dave Eggars for a recent posting. In it Dave rants about selling out:
“What matters is that you do good work. What matters is that you produce things that are true and will stand. What matters is that the Flaming Lips’s new album is ravishing and I’ve listened to it a thousand times already, sometimes for days on end, and it enriches me and makes me want to save people. What matters is that it will stand forever, long after any narrow-hearted curmudgeons have forgotten their appearance on goddamn 90210.”
